Lawrence is a Reader in Physical Activity and Health in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University. His research focuses on understanding factors and developing interventions to promote physical activity and sport participation, particularly among children and young people. Lawrence is interested in physical literacy and has published work on definitions and assessment. This work led to Lawrence and collaborators being awarded National Lottery funding from Sport England to co-develop a Physical Literacy Consensus for England with regional, national, and international stakeholders. He is an experienced mixed methods researcher with approximately 70 peer-reviewed publications, over £1million research income, and 10 supervised PhD completions.
