A National Pelvic Health Service
The UK government and NHS are addressing women's health concerns post-childbirth, including urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, affecting 1 in 3 women. With over £11 million in government funding from April 2024, a nationwide pelvic health service is introduced to offer early self-assessment during pregnancy, educate women on prevention, and reduce waiting times for personalized treatment. This initiative includes specialized clinics and perinatal pelvic health services, emphasizing injury prevention during childbirth. Mental health support and education are integral, ensuring seamless referrals between pelvic and mental health care. It will also allow affected women to access appropriate physiotherapy assessment. Substantial investments in maternity services and workforce expansion highlight a commitment to enhancing women's health.
